Der 1972 in Edinburgh, Schottland, gegründet Weltverband The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) vertritt die Interessen der Bibliothekare und anderer Informationsprofis auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene. Der polistisch neutrale Verband repräsentiert nahezu 2000 Mitglieder in rund 150 Ländern. Das höchste Gremium der IFLA ist das Governing Board, das durch einen Präsidenten repräsentiert wird. Mit der "73rd IFLA General Conference and Council" in Durban (Südafrika) wird Prof. Dr. Claudia Lux die Präsidentschaft (2007-2009) übernehmen.
