Elisabeth Simon, geboren in Tallinn, Estland, über Flucht und Lageraufenthalte Schulbesuch in Hamburg. Verheiratet mit dem Musikethnologen Artur Simon

Beruflicher Werdegang

Studium zur Diplom- Bibliothekarin in Hamburg sowie Studium der Geschichte und Soziologie an der Universität Hamburg. Teilnahme als einzige Deutsche an einem europäischen Austauschprogramm der USA und Arbeit an Bibliotheken in Lima und Columbus, Ohio.

Seit 1970 Leitung einer Öffentlichen Bibliothek in Hamburg. Lehrveranstaltungen an der Fachhochschule und der Berufsschule in Hamburg. Rezensentin für "Buch und Bibliothek".

1974 Umzug nach Berlin und Aufbau der Geschäftsführung der Bibliothekarischen Auslandsstelle am Deutschen Bibliotheksinstitut. Aufbau eines Netzwerkes für die internationale Zusammenarbeit mit in- und ausländischen Institutionen. Einladungen zu Referaten, Studienreisen und Seminaren weltweit. Gutachten für ausländische Magisterarbeiten und Institute. Ca. 100 Veröffentlichungen in Deutsch und Englisch mit Übersetzungen ins Chinesische, Englische, Japanische, Kroatische, Mazedonische, Rumänische und Russische.

Seit 2002 Vorsitzende des Förderkreises für West-Ost-Informationstransfer e.V. in Berlin.

2003 Mitbegründerin und Leiterin eines kleinen bibliothekarischen internationalen Fachverlages BibSpider.

Seit 2004 Lehrbeauftragte am Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft an der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, 2007 Gründung eines eigenen Fachverlages in Berlin Simon Verlag für Bibliothekswissen, Vorstandsmitglied des Vereins Ostwärts e.V. Besondere Interessen: Digitalisierung von Bibliotheken und die Zusammenarbeit mit Archiven, Informationsvermittlung für kleine und mittlere Betriebe, Interkultureller Informationstransfer, Probleme der Aus- und Weiterbildung.
